Cyclades

A different Santorini

Most people come for the view. Few stay long enough to see what keeps the island alive once the crowds have gone.

On the south side, around Perissa, the vines grow low and woven like baskets so they can stand up to the wind. Inside the old kanaves, the caves where wine used to age, it still smells of stone and must.

A younger generation that came back to the island lives and works there. Not to show it off, but to keep it going.
